Cell Phones and Privacy

Cell Phones and Privacy:

I do not think that prepaid cell phones should be banned or controlled by the law. I feel as if prepaid phones are very useful for many reasons and the good outweighs the bad. I understand that they can be abused and used for the wrong reasons, but so can everything else. This could be useful for people who are traveling, or even someone trying to avoid people having their numbers. Also they can avoid the problem of having to pay a bill every month as well as getting sucked into a phone plan that requires data bills and other things that are a pain. Also for parents who want to control their teenagers usage of phones and not worry about them going over the bill this is a great idea. As well as for people who don't depend on a phone as much as most people and only need it for occasional contact. For people with spending problems, this would allow them to control their spending and use their phones wisely.

This seems like a privacy that we should allow people to have because it is their own choice weather they want to have their information traced or recorded. I don't think you should be able to require someone to allow their prepaid cell phones to be tracked because you are not allowing that person their right to privacy. Overall it appears to me that the good aspects of a prepaid phone outweigh the bad ones.

  1. I agree with your post about cellphones and privacy. I feel as though prepaid cellphones offer many benefits, like financial savings and travel usage. I definitely feel like the average person is using a prepaid cellphone for legitimate reasons, and their usage shouldn’t be of concern to the government. However, there are some people out in society that purposely use prepaid cellphones to cover their location and identity, which makes me believe that the government should have some control over the use of prepaid phones.

  2. I completely agree with your argument here, you brought up an interesting point about not having to sign a contract. Without a contract people arent locking themselves into one company and leave their options open.

  3. I agree also with your post on cell phones and privacy. I did not even think about people who travel and the benefits of a pre paid cell phone for them until I read your post. You make great arguments to support pre paid cell phones.

  4. I also agree with you. I didn't even think about the reason of getting a pre paid phone so you don't have to pay a bill every month.

  5. I completely agree that prepaid cell phones should not be banned. They are clearly beneficial to many people. The point of parents using them to control how much their teenagers use their cell phones was an interesting one and I couldn't agree more. That could definitely help cut down on teenage phone use.

  6. I agree with everything you said in your first paragraph. Those are all legitimate reasons to not ban cell phones. However I do thing that prepaid cell phones should have a tracking chip in them. Privacy is important with personal information, but if you can cut down on terrorism and acts of crime by putting a chip in tracking phones, or at least make it harder for criminals and terrorists to communicate and go unnoticed by the government, then I think it would be a good idea to put the chip in prepaid phones.
